Why am I learning to code?

Design + Engineering

As a designer working for enterprises, it’s often difficult to go back and fix design if you missed something during design and development. More often than not unless it’s a functional bug, cosmetic bugs remain visible on the site for ages! By understanding both the design and the code, I hope to reduce the number of cosmetic bugs by understanding the limitations and capabilities of the language.

I enjoy problem solving

My mind is hardwired to solve problems. When I started coding at my first job, I found myself staying later at work because

  • I was a self taught coder I created a lot of bugs!
  • I didn’t notice the time go by as I was too focused on fixing the bugs
  • I got a lot of energy and a sense of accomplishment when I solved the problem
  • And because I got energy from solving the problem, I try and solve the other ones to get that feeling again!

Stay relevant in the industry

The IT industry moves at a quick pace. It’s important to stay relevant to what is going on in the industry. A friend of mine who was a senior front end developer of 10 years suddenly found it hard to get work because he didn’t believe in React as a coding language! It’s so important to always be learning in this industry!
